How the Badhaka house is fixed
The rule turns on the modality of your rising sign, and nothing else. It is one of the few determinations in Jyotish with no room for interpretation.
- Movable (Chara) — Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn: the 11th house is Badhaka.
- Fixed (Sthira) — Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius: the 9th house is Badhaka.
- Dual (Dwiswabhava) — Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces: the 7th house is Badhaka.
How it actually shows up
The Badhakesh becomes active mainly during its own Dasha or Antardasha, and when slow transits touch it. What it produces is friction rather than damage, which is precisely what makes it hard to spot.
- Work that falls apart at the final step, repeatedly.
- Promotions, payments or marriage that keep slipping with no clear cause.
- Stretches of mental fog and resistance you cannot trace to anything.
The dispositor decides the outcome
The house your Badhakesh occupies tells you where the obstruction lands — in the 10th it shows up as career, in the 7th as partnership. But whether it eventually clears is decided by the dispositor: the lord of that occupied house.
A strong, well-placed dispositor means the blockage yields to persistence. A weak or afflicted one is why some obstructions become chronic rather than merely inconvenient.
The paradox of a fixed lagna
For the four fixed signs the Badhaka house is the 9th — the house of fortune, dharma and the guru. Your house of luck is also your house of obstruction, which sounds like a contradiction until you read it as one.
For these charts the barrier is usually conviction itself: rigid belief, over-reliance on fortune, or unquestioning faith in a mentor. Loosening the dogma is what tends to release the blockage.
Remedies — appease, do not strengthen
The common and genuinely harmful mistake is wearing the Badhakesh's gemstone to 'strengthen' it. Strengthening the planet strengthens the obstruction. The classical approach is propitiation instead — charity, fasting, and its mantra.
Ganesha, as Vighnaharta, is worshipped for exactly this class of affliction, and is the safest baseline remedy when you are unsure of anything else.
