What is Mangal Dosha (Manglik)?
Mangal Dosha, also known as Kuja Dosha or being “Manglik,” is a placement in Vedic astrology formed when the planet Mars (Mangal) occupies certain houses of the birth chart. Since Mars represents energy, assertiveness, and conflict, its presence in specific houses is traditionally believed to influence marital harmony, which is why this dosha is checked most often before marriage matchmaking.
How It Is Calculated

Cancellation (Mangal Dosha Bhanga) & Interpretation
Classical astrology also lists several conditions under which Mangal Dosha is considered cancelled or significantly reduced (called Dosha Bhanga) — for example, when Mars occupies its own sign (Aries or Scorpio) or its sign of exaltation (Capricorn), when it is aspected by a benefic like Jupiter, or when both partners in a proposed marriage are found to be Manglik, which is traditionally believed to neutralize the effect between them. Because of these exceptions, a simple house placement should not be read in isolation — the full chart context matters.
