Name: a blow, or thwarting
Vyaghata means a blow or a thwarting — the sense of an effort meeting sudden, forceful resistance. It is one of the nine inauspicious Yogas and is classically associated with injury, conflict and the frustration of plans rather than with gentle delay.
Because of that association, texts caution against beginning anything meant to proceed smoothly during Vyaghata, and single out physical risk in particular — activity involving weapons, machinery or confrontation is treated with added care.
Its name means a blow or thwarting, and Muhurta texts treat it as a Yoga in which plans meet sudden, forceful resistance — physical risk in particular is flagged, so activity involving weapons, machinery or confrontation is approached with added caution.
A Nitya Yoga is one of 27 periods based on the sum (not the difference, as with Tithi) of the Sun's and Moon's longitudes, each 13°20' wide. It is distinct from the special Muhurat Yogas also listed under /yogas (like Ravi Yoga or Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga) — those are formed by a combination of Tithi, Nakshatra, and Vaara, whereas a Nitya Yoga is one of the five ever-present core elements of the Panchang.
