Name: a spear, or sharp pain
Shoola takes its name from the word for a spear or a piercing pain, and classical Muhurta reads it correspondingly as one of the sharper, more confrontational Yogas in the cycle. It is counted among the nine inauspicious Yogas and is associated with conflict, injury and disputes rather than gentle beginnings.
Given that character, texts advise against launching anything that depends on harmony or goodwill during Shoola, and instead note it as tolerable — even fitting — for acts that are themselves confrontational, such as facing a dispute or a difficult negotiation head-on.
