Considered inauspicious — work begun now is said to face obstacles, though these are traditionally held to ease as the Yoga progresses. This page lists every Vishkambha Yoga in 2026 with its begin and end timings for your location.
Name: a supporting pillar — but also a barrier across the path
Vishkambha opens the cycle of 27 Nitya Yogas, and its name carries two senses that pull in opposite directions: a pillar that props something up, and an obstruction that blocks the way. Classical Muhurta reads it mainly through the second sense — as a Yoga under which new work tends to meet resistance at the outset.
That resistance is traditionally described as easing rather than persisting; texts note that the difficulty associated with Vishkambha is heaviest in its earlier portion and lightens as the Yoga runs its course. For this reason, important beginnings are often deferred to a later Yoga rather than forced through Vishkambha's opening hours.
Its name itself carries the sense of a barrier across a path, and Muhurta texts read that literally: work begun under Vishkambha is said to encounter early resistance. The same texts add that this difficulty is heaviest near the start of the Yoga and eases as it progresses, which is why some almanacs still mark later portions of Vishkambha as usable.
A Nitya Yoga is one of 27 periods based on the sum (not the difference, as with Tithi) of the Sun's and Moon's longitudes, each 13°20' wide. It is distinct from the special Muhurat Yogas also listed under /yogas (like Ravi Yoga or Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga) — those are formed by a combination of Tithi, Nakshatra, and Vaara, whereas a Nitya Yoga is one of the five ever-present core elements of the Panchang.
